KIDNAPPING - in biblical times as today the term referred to the unlawful capturing and detaining of an individual. In biblical times individuals were usually kidnapped so they could be enslaved by the kidnapper or sold as slaves. Kidnapping was punished in ancient Israel by death (Exod. 21:16, Deut. 24:7).
