R

REDACTION ANALYSIS - the study of a biblical text which concentrates on understanding how the final or earlier editors shaped the materials they had to create their particular theological perspective in the final text.

ROSETTA STONE - In 1801 an engineer in Napoleon's army discovered a stone with an inscription in Greek, demotic, and Egyptian hieroglyphics. Believing the stone to contain the same inscription in three different scripts, the French scholar Champollion began to work on deciphering the Egyptian hieroglyphics. As a result of amazing dedication and skill, he was able to decipher the hieroglyphics and open a brand new world for scholars.

ROYAL PSALM - a type of psalm written for the king as God's representative upon the earth (e.g., Pss. 2, 45, 110). The king was to follow the law and guidance of the true king, God. As successive kings failed to measure up, some began to apply these psalms to the messiah who would come.
