ZIGGURAT - a stepped structure which usually had a temple on its top and one at its base. A ziggurat looks like a pyramid but with stepped sides. A base would be constructed with a smaller stricture on its top, a still smaller on its top, and so on. Most scholars believe that the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:3-9) was a ziggurat.
